Experimenting with ways to colour cloth has been the major part of this year's work, but 'stitched sketches' (free machine stitching) continue and an attempt to combine the two has resulted in some new work. Framed pieces, work in mounts and scarves available for sale. Members of our group are each working on a sketchbook entitled Close to Home.

Jane Baikie

Drawing, Painting

Jane Baikie

I enjoy 'playing with paint' as it allows me to experiment and discover different textures and patterns in my work. I often paint still life so I can set up a subject and then develop the image, changing areas as I paint and hopefully then get to a stage when the painting tells me where to go next. I work with mixed media, mainly water based with the addition of soft or oil pastels. Exhibiting work makes you complete your work, it is often easier to start a painting than finish it. I teach workshops and a regular weekly painting session.

My work continues to reflect the colours and marks that I see around me every day. This year I have been influenced by my travels in Guatemala, Ethiopia and the Highlands of Scotland where each day brought a new feast for the senses.

I came across a book of landscape poetry earlier this year and have been using some of these poems as inspiration for my work. Also, I love painting flowers and recently did commissions for friends' gardens and homes. I work in acrylics, inks, watercolour and pastels.

I am continuing my exploration into organic patterns found throughout the natural world. I am inspired as much by images taken from the air as the tiny fractal patterns found in close up photography.

Paula White

Jewellery

Paula White

My jewellery is influenced by my life in and love of Africa, African culture and nature, but also pieces reflect the esoteric qualities of the stones with which I work. I try and allow the stones speak for themselves in my jewellery. I also enjoy incorporating different materials including leather, bone, wood and shells.
