Jane Baikie

Drawing, Painting

Jane Baikie

To me painting is always a journey of exploration and experimentation. Creating interesting shapes and patterns informs the way I work with mixed media. I am seeking to abstract the detail of the subject, whether it is a landscape or still life, and let the mark making speak for itself.

Gill Banks

Mixed media, Textiles

Gill Banks

My fascination continues with the lines and layers of landscape both here and on my travels. The seashore too holds a deep attraction for me, particularly the wide-open beaches of the North Norfolk and Northumberland. I love the constantly changing light and very physical experience of wind and weather.

Exhibiting for the first time in Open Studios is thrilling. Having spent 17 years teaching, now being able to focus on evolving my own work is exciting. Environment influences me and the beautiful array of glass available provides so much inspiration, envisaging how I can develop my art into pieces enjoyed by all. I run workshops at The Base, Greenham as a resident artist.

Inspired by flowers in my garden, visits to Wisley and other beautiful gardens and by the local landscape, I try to describe in my paintings the shapes, texture and colour that I see. I generally work in acrylics, inks, watercolours and pastels and have recently used charcoal for quick landscape sketches.
